Climate for Change

About Climate for Change

We are a volunteer-powered not-for-profit organisation. Our vision is an Australia in which climate action is a top priority: Community, business and government unite to make the courageous and urgent changes needed to avoid catastrophic climate change and return us to safer temperatures. Our mission is to create the social and political will necessary for that to occur.

To do this, we help everyday Australians talk about climate change more effectively and more frequently. Increasing research shows that personal and social change happen when we talk to people we know and trust.

We’re not all talk though: The conversations we facilitate centre around taking action, and 80% of our audience report a change in at least one behaviour.

Since beginning in Melbourne in 2015, we’ve grown to be operating in every state of Australia. 11,000 people have attended one of our Climate Conversations, and we’ve reached even more through our campaigns and other programs. We have big plans for the future, and through this fellowship you can play a fundamental role in realising those plans.

About our fellowship

“I feel so much more engaged with climate action and much more empowered and confident to talk about climate with others and share knowledge and energy.”

— Liv Patterson, 2021 fellow.

Our annual Fundraising and Communications Fellowship builds the capacity of 45 passionate people across Australia.

The four-month volunteer program involves weekly online training sessions, in which fellows learn essential skills for entering the not-for-profit sector. These sessions are taught in-house and by industry professionals.

Our past guest speakers have come from Environment Victoria, Australian Conservation Foundation, Human Rights Law Centre and Farmers for Climate Action, to name a few.

Topics covered include:

  • Climate change and climate action
  • Peer-to-peer fundraising
  • Decolonisation and allyship
  • Personal narrative
  • Fundraiser recruitment
  • Messaging and framing
  • Climate communication
  • Digital fundraising
  • Graphic design
  • Phone banking
  • MP engagement
  • Active hope
  • Breaking into the NFP sector
  • And more...

In the last month of the program, fellows put what they’ve learnt to immediate effect as ambassadors in our peer-to-peer fundraising campaign, which has raised over $1 million for climate action since the fellowship began.

What’s in it for you?

“This fellowship has been one of the best experiences of my life. It reignited my passion and built my confidence in self, in a way that cannot be knocked down easily. I feel now that I have undeniable value in a professional capacity.”
