Bankstown Women’s Health Centre (BWHC) is a community-based feminist women’s health service. It was initiated by women, for women. BWHC looks at all aspects of women’s health and lifestyle. This includes Health and wellbeing, as well as intervention & treatment for health issues. BWHC has provided an important service to women for over 40 years, and have developed extensive networks, and established referral pathways.

Services provided include Women’s Medical Clinic, Generalist Counselling, Casework, Dietetics, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Women’s Legal Clinic, Groups, Activities, Workshops, and resource information.

We are seeking a suitably qualified Social Worker to work within a small dedicated trauma informed team, to deliver individual psychosocial therapy/ case work, interventions, and appropriate counselling. This is a permanent Full time position, responsible to the CEO, and paid under the Health Professional Awards

Job description

  • The Practitioner role involves to provide counselling and casework services to children and young people (up to 18 years) who have experienced domestic violence, trauma and or been sexually assaulted
  • Commitment to provide counselling, casework, education, advocacy, information, referrals, and support to their non-offending families/ carers to enable a family centred approach for the best interests of the child or adolescent. This may be achieved through individual, family group work, or children and adolescent group work.
  • Commitment to using a strengths-based child and family centred, empowerment, trauma-informed approach to counselling in order to support clients, their family, and promote their independence and achieve optimal well-being and social participation 
  • Plan to work with the whole family as necessary

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, including current registration or eligibility to register with respective professional body. 
  • Minimum 2-year practice working in a similar role
  • Commitment to provide counselling, casework, education, advocacy, information, referrals, and support to their non-offending families/ carers to enable a family centred approach for the best interests of the child or adolescent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of  trauma informed strengths based interventions
  • Demonstrated experience and a good understanding of working with children and young people (up to 18 years) who have experienced domestic violence, trauma and or been sexually assaulted.
  • Experience delivering, evidence-based practices , goal planning and  therapeutic interventions
  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), problem solving and negotiation skills and demonstrated ability to consult, liaise and negotiate within a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to collaboratively plan and deliver individualised psychological interventions
  • Woman only position under Section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW)

Desirable Criteria:

  1. A Second language
  2. Experience working with specific populations (e.g. Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander populations, and CALD communities )
  3. Knowledge of the DEX Reporting
  4. Trained in delivering parenting accredited courses
