Donation Sorter - Warehouse (voluntary)

Brotherhood of St Laurence
  • Location: 77 Strzelecki Ave, Sunshine West
  • Hours: Minimum 4 hours per week, any weekday

Summary of program and its objectives

The first Brotherhood store was opened in the 1930s on Fitzroy's Gertrude Street, once a neighbourhood of the most vulnerable families and individuals, now a hip fashion district. Its aim then was to recycle large quantities of clothing and furniture for people in need - our cause and purpose remains the same today.

The Brotherhood now operates 22 stores across Greater Melbourne, and their success relies on the passionate and dedicated team of staff, more than 700 volunteers and the generous donations received for the communities in which we work.

Join our friendly community of hundreds of volunteers that are dedicated to teamwork, respect, excellence and fun.

As donation sorters, you will sort and pack donations according to quality and category, and pack, rack and allocate sorted stock into appropriate areas as directed.

To meet the requirements of this role, you will need to:

  • Have interest or knowledge of fashion and bric-a-brac
  • Be physically fit
  • Be able to do repetitive bending, lifting, pushing and pulling on an ongoing basis
  • Be able to identify clothing genders
  • Have enthusiasm, reliability and commitment to the objectives of the Retail Group and the Brotherhood of St Laurence
  • Have an understanding of and empathy with the values and ideals of the Brotherhood
