Caber Ra Nanga means resting the mind. The name was gifted to us by a local elder. Our Caber Ra Nanga program creates a cultural bridge and sense of safety for Aboriginal people accessing mental health services.

In our next phase, we will be working with an Aboriginal Consultant who will be delivering Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid training in schools across the Northern Sydney region and monthly yarn up groups. The training will build the capacity of educators to respond appropriately to the needs of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people and identify those who require wraparound mental health support. This is the first time this Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid training will be delivered in the Northern Sydney region.

Your new role:

Your role is to provide the wraparound support through casework and service coordination, engaging with Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander and mainstream service providers and community leaders to build referral pathways, share information and provide culturally appropriate service continuity.

You will undertake intake assessments of referred Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to identify their needs, provide information, brief interventions and referrals to appropriate services to address their mental health challenges and health

About you:

This is an identified position only open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

You will have:

  • Experience providing casework or service coordination to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
  • Understanding of mental health impacts on the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community
  • Ability to yarn with everyone, being respectful of other's beliefs and adapting your approach to the person/group
  • Have capacity to travel to schools and other service providers
