The Head of Policy and Advocacy provides leadership, research, engagement, guidance and input on policy and advocacy strategy. Key Accountabilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Leading collective advocacy to drive positive change.
  • Overseeing and ensuring multi-dimensional engagement with stakeholders including, government, homelessness services, community housing providers, research institutions, other service providers, industry, and Shelter WA members.
  • Overseeing the delivery of a sector development plans, strategies and activities to build the capability and capacity of the sector.
  • Delivering exceptional policy, research and practice papers targeting members, the community sector, government and industry.
  • Developing advocacy strategies centred in evidence-based policy positions to drive systemic reform.
  • Leading a small team of passionate advocates.

Critical to the success of this role will be your solid experience in a social policy and advocacy role; we are seeking someone with a minimum of 5-10 years’ expertise. A sound understanding of housing and homelessness sector will be highly regarded. You will be a solid researcher with skills in data analysis and strategic thinking. Your ability to develop professional and well written documentation, through research and engagement, will also be essential.

As a small team we require someone who can be agile and adaptable, someone who can be hands on but also strategic. You will need to be self-motivated and outcomes focused in delivering results for the organisation and sector.

Shelter WA is are open to negotiating working arrangements that will work best for the chosen candidates; this may include part-time/job share, working from home components or a fixed term secondment. Lived experience of homelessness or housing challenges, coupled with the knowledge, skills and experience needed for this role, will strengthen your application.
