Job brief:

We are looking for an experienced General Manager to lead and manage all strategic and business aspects of the organisation. You will be the first in command in the organisation and responsible for leading the strategic direction as well as creating a vision for success.

To thrive as the General Manager, you must be a prudent manager and an inspiring leader. The ideal candidate will have a business mindset and will be able to see the “big picture” in a variety of settings. You will take actions to enhance the organisation’s cash flow while keeping the human factor in perspective.

The goal is to drive the organisation’s development and guide it towards long-term success. 

General Manager responsibilities include:

  • Develop high quality business strategies and plans ensuring the alignment with short-term and long-term objectives of Bowen Flexi Care Inc.  
  • Lead and motivate all staff to advance employee engagement in service delivery and develop and support a high performing managerial team.
  • Oversee all operations and business activities to ensure they produce the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission of Bowen Flexi Care Inc.  
  • Make high-quality recommendations to the board for investment decisions to advance the business and increase profits.
  • Enforce adherence to legal guidelines and in-house policies to maintain the organisation’s mandatory compliance requirements and business ethics.
  • Review financial and non-financial reports to devise solutions or improvements for optimal service delivery.  
  • Continue to forge relationships with key partners and stakeholders and act as a point of contact for the key stakeholders.  
  • Be proactive and solution focused to resolving issues as they arise to ensure the longevity of the organisation. 
  • Maintain an in-depth and contemporary knowledge of the markets and industry the organisation operates within.  

Skills and experience:

The successful candidate will demonstrate a capability to:

  • Proven experience as General Manager or in other managerial positions.
  • Effectively communicate and work with the Board and community leaders to fulfill the organisation’s mission and strategy.
  • Provide leadership and support to staff and volunteers.
  • Assess and implement sponsorship and fundraising programs.
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles.
  • Deliver on financial goals.
  • Ensure operational excellence through all systems and procedures.
  • Build community awareness and key partnerships.
  • Meet regulatory requirements and managing risk.
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles.
  • Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, PR, finance etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organisational and leadership skills.
  • Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills.

Key Selection Criteria:

The successful candidate will be a leader with strong leadership and business administration skills, particularly in finance and human resource management, who has a record of accomplishment in the not-for-profit sector. Our ideal General Manager will possess most, if not all of the elements listed below.

Local knowledge of the Whitsunday region. Established residence or networks within the Whitsunday region is a significant advantage.

  • Significant experience in the not-for-profit sector especially working in the disability sector.
  • A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results. Ideally knowledgeable in grant writing, gaining corporate support through sponsorship agreements and fundraising.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and driving new initiatives and projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively with a diverse Board of Directors.
  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation, vision and persistence to succeed.
  • Demonstrated experience in the successful management of people and teams.
  • High level strategic thinking, planning, human resource and financial management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills capable of influencing and inspiring those around them.
  • Qualifications in Business Management with developed expertise in information communication and technology, human resources and finance is highly desirable.
