Bloom is delighted to partner with the newly incorporated Aboriginal Community Housing Industry Association (ACHIA) and its Board to engage their first Chief Executive Officer. This is an identified role.

There is a need for a strong, effective and independent voice for the Aboriginal community housing sector that can represent and advocate for the sector, assist in building Aboriginal Community Housing Provider's (ACHP) capacity to achieve registration under the National Regulatory System for Community Housing, and facilitate elements under the Aboriginal Housing Office's (AHO) Strong Family Strong Communities Strategy.

Reporting to the Board, the CEO is responsible for strategic and operational business planning and performance, and the management of day-to-day operations, people and resources. The CEO is also responsible for ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and contractual obligations while overseeing the sustainability of the organisation.

As the CEO of a peak body an aspect of the role is ensuring that ACHIA best supports its diverse membership base. This includes sector capacity building and industry development initiatives, leading policy and advocacy development and being a primary spokesperson for the Aboriginal community housing sector.

The CEO must be able to build the profile of the industry and represent its interests through relationships with a range of external stakeholders, including State and Local government agencies and Ministers, other housing and homelessness peaks, finance and property industry representatives, and through effective communication and media strategies. A key focus will be working collaboratively with the Aboriginal Housing Office, NSW Aboriginal Land Council, other Aboriginal peaks and CHIA NSW.

The following knowledge, skills and competencies are sort:

  • Extensive experience in public policy and advocacy ideally in housing or a related sector
  • Experience in a member-based organisation
  • Senior executive experience in media and government relations and the ability to use media strategies to raise awareness and build profile
  • Strategic planning and financial management skills including sound accounting and reporting to the Board and other regulatory bodies.
  • Experience in developing policies and practices to meet regulatory, legislative and contractual compliance
  • Ability to inspire and engage staff by building links to strategy and purpose
  • Ability to create and communicate an inspiring vision that supports the industry and helps to influence policy makers
  • Highest level of integrity and interpersonal skills that engenders trust
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Knowledge and understanding of the challenges and barriers that affect Aboriginal communities and organisations in NSW
