The Organisation

We are proud to partner with SEARMS, a registered Aboriginal community housing provider. SEARMS has served Aboriginal communities in regional NSW and the ACT since 2003, providing housing and tenancy management services to the Aboriginal Housing Officer and other Aboriginal organisations. SEARMS currently manage 400 properties across their operating area, and in 2020 achieved registration as a Tier 3 Community Housing Provider (CHP).

Within the Aboriginal communities that SEARMS serve, there is disadvantage in health, education, and employment outcomes. SEARMS endeavours to address this entrenched disadvantage whilst preserving the integrity and the core of Aboriginal values and beliefs.

This Role

This permanent full time Accountant role will be responsible for the organisation’s financial accounting, working closely with the wider SEARMS teams to deliver exceptional support and financial advice.

Based predominately from the Batemans Bay office, the ideal candidate will have strong accounts preparation and month end processing capabilities with experience in financial reporting, reconciliations, payroll and accounts payable/receivable.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing of all accounts payable and receivable transactions
  • End of month accounting including journals and general ledger reconciliations
  • Responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the General Ledger and Project Accounting Ledger
  • Supervision of Finance Officers
  • Oversee fortnightly Payroll
  • Responsible for statutory lodgements including ATO and Community Housing regulators
  • Preparation Fringe Benefits schedules and Return
  • Assist the CFO in the preparation of the annual financial statements
  • Assist the CFO in managing the external Audit
  • Preparation of Month end reports
  • Assist CFO with Project Accounting, Budgets and Forecasts

About You

  • 3 years’ post graduate accounting experience
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to lead and develop a small team
  • Professional philosophy that aligns with the mission and values of SEARMS
  • Highly developed computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office, accounting software and contemporary cloud based software
  • Bachelor Degree or Diploma in Accounting

Being fully Covid 19 vaccinated, holding a current driver's licence, Working with Children’s Check NSW and completing a criminal history check are required in this role.
