Kangaroo Island Bushfire Recovery Project Officer

BirdLife Australia

This is an exciting new opportunity to join BirdLife Australia (BirdLife) in the recovery of Kangaroo Island’s endemic birds following the devastating 2019/2020 fires

With over 175,000 supporters, 90 staff and a national network of community groups, BirdLife is one of the country’s foremost wildlife conservation organisations.

In this new Kangaroo Island-based position you will be responsible for undertaking targeted bird surveys and engaging the Kangaroo Island (KI) community in bird monitoring across the island, to gain an island-wide perspective on the post-fire recovery of KI’s birdlife.

The successful candidate will plan and implement bird monitoring on Kangaroo Island, deliver community education and engagement, and work with key stakeholders to inform targeted on-ground conservation management for KI birds.

We are looking for a self-motivated and experienced bird surveyor with a strong interest in and knowledge of threatened species conservation and recovery programs. The incumbent must have excellent communication skills with the ability to manage stakeholder consultation, and work collaboratively with government agencies, and community groups.

This is a fixed term part time position available until 30 June 2021.

A position description is attached.
