Banyule Community Health is looking to recruit a highly motivated, and skilled Health Promotion Officer with excellent Community Development, Co-design and evaluation skills, to work within the diverse community of West Heidelberg (3081). Using a trauma-informed approach, you will work on key programs associated with the Integrated Health Promotion Plan. At present, the position has a particular focus on the priority areas of Healthy & Active Living and Early Literacy. Critical activities will include hands-on project work with the community, development of a community centred approach to our healthy eating/active living initiative including a review of our current health promotion materials and the functions of Buna Community Garden and the development of promotion and evaluation for the We Love Stories Program. This is a great opportunity to work with the community, in a professional and team-based environment, alongside other experienced Health Promotion Officers.

Your self-motivation, interpersonal skills, and expertise as a Health Promotion Officer/ Community Development Worker will see you excel in this role as you:

  • Work on the development of two key BCH Health Promotion programs to strengthen engagement with the community, through a mixture of hands-on program delivery and promotion, co-design, and rigorous data collection and evaluation.
  • Provide person-centred health promotion activities to the community of all ages and abilities.
  • Work collaboratively with Community, Volunteers, and the BCH Health Promotion Team in specified programs.
  • Build and maintain working partnerships with other services and stakeholders.
  • Work with Centre for Community Child Health, to design and deliver evaluation processes, including management of data.
  • Document and raise the profile of programs, including managing regular Facebook outputs.
  • Provide administrative support to programs as needed, including managing mailouts and databases.
  • Support grant writing when needed.

What you will need:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification e.g. community development, health promotion, social work, welfare studies, youth work or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in outreach, co-design and relational working practice.
  • Experience in facilitating programs with and for diverse communities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, including good report writing skills.
  • Excellent project management, promotion and evaluation skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of West Heidelberg (3081) would be highly regarded.
  • Ability to speak an additional relevant community language would be highly regarded.
  • Knowledge in early literacy and/or gardening is highly desirable.
  • Victorian Driver's Licence highly desirable
