Banyule Community Health is funded by the Federal Government's Indigenous Australian's Health Program to support activities which aim to improve health outcomes for Indigenous Australians with chronic health conditions.

This program aims to identify clients with chronic diseases and support them to build their self-management capabilities through a range of educational, empowerment and provision of programs that strengthen social and cultural connection.

The key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Maintenance of the day-to-day operations of the Banyule Community Health FoodShare program at the Aboriginal Gathering Space
  • Liaising with SecondBite regarding pickup of the food, any changes, increases in demand, and planning around holiday times. Changes to the MOU and logistics
  • Organising staff roster to cover pickup, sorting and delivery of food each Friday and the necessary supplies related to the running of FoodShare, like bags, cleaning products, PPE and sanitizer
  • Support community members to use/access phones/computers at the Gathering Place to assist them to access the services and information they need to build their self-management capacity. This may include facilitating referrals to BCH supports if needed

The key skills required for this role include:

  • A good understanding of the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members living with chronic diseases and the issues that may impact on them accessing health services
  • Well-developed community development skills including program coordination
  • The ability to communicate effectively with members of the Aboriginal community and other relevant organisations
  • Demonstrated competency in the use of IT systems to achieve the requirements of the role
  • At least three years experience in delivery of and coordination of services using participatory approaches to working with Aboriginal community highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of Aboriginal cultural practices highly desirable
