Lead Practitioner, Specialist Family Violence Services

We are seeking a Lead Practitioner to join our busy team in Darwin.

This program provides specialist family violence counselling services to women and children who have experienced or witnessed family violence.

The Lead Practitioner is responsible for the implementation, leadership and integration of the following program/s:

Specialised Family Violence Counselling and Safe Houses; in order for the program/s to meet their objectives.

This position has a particular focus on leading and mentoring program staff, applying for professional knowledge and support whilst providing direct services and managing complex client work.

Direct service delivery:

  • Work within a domestic violence practice framework, apply skills, knowledge and experience in crisis intervention, safety planning, group work, counselling, case management and community education
  • Apply practice knowledge of working with women and children affected by domestic and/or family violence
  • Undertake risk assessments to support the continued safety of women and children
  • Through advocacy promote and enhance referral pathways and responses to women and children affected by domestic and family violence
  • Apply evidence-based, trauma-informed practice principles and methodologies, working towards agreed goals and supporting wellbeing outcomes for participants
  • Ensure the effective operation of safe houses
  • Oversee service delivery of the program team/s and allocation of service requests

Selection Criteria:

  1. Relevant qualification in Counselling, Social Work or Psychology and minimum five years' experience in relevant practice and team leadership
  2. Membership or eligibility to join a governing body such as PACFA, AASW or ACA
  3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills encompassing report writing, case note writing, supervision, and the ability to communicate effectively with managers, staff and stakeholders across a range of diverse cultural groups and settings
  4. Experience in recording and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data in line with program requirements and leading a team to do the same
  5. Demonstrated cultural competency, particularly in working with Indigenous people
  6. Experience in providing supervision to multi-disciplinary staff
