We are looking for a counsellor to join our busy team here in Darwin.

Do you have a passion for helping enable children, young people and adults in all their diversity to develop and sustain safe, supportive and nurturing family relationships, and reduce the emotional, social and economic costs associated with disruption to family relationships.

The counsellor's role is to support crime victims and strengthen family relationships generally, preventing breakdown, enhancing children and young people's wellbeing and mental health and assisting couples and families to manage issues arising from relationships or crimes, including family violence.

Key Responsibilities:

To ensure that crime victims have timely access to information, support and referral services that can assist them in recovering from the impacts associated with the event by:

  • Ensuring that the immediate practical needs are met, particularly in relation to safety, income support, housing, medical care and legal assistance
  • Linking people into supportive appropriate services and networks such as community networks, groups, and recreation activities where possible
  • Providing information about common stress reactions and coping mechanisms
  • Maintaining linkages to other services to support the person to identify longer term services that they can access, such as children's counselling and domestic violence counselling

Build community awareness about the crime victims counselling scheme through community education by:

  • Consulting with the Crime Victims Co-ordinator, ensuring that brochures are distributed regularly, and that services are linked into social media
