Case Manager Youth Diversion - Tennant Creek

The Youth Diversion program supports young offenders to be diverted away from the judicial system by providing community based programs rather than detention, to reduce the number of young people entering the justice system and the courts, and decreasing the number of incidents of young offender recidivism.

By engaging young people in activities which can lead to gaining employment and/or engaging in alternative education, the aim of the program is that young people will improve their wellbeing and not re-offend.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide case management to support clients
  • To work with clients to identify factors which influence young people's offending behaviour.
  • Work with family members to create a supportive and accountable environment for the young person
  • Engage with key stakeholders to provide diversionary activities suitable for young people's participation
  • Where required provide diversionary activities within community
  • Engage a young person with diversionary requirements and work to overcome barriers such as AOD, family dysfunction, trauma, community disengagement
  • Monitor implementation and attendance

We are looking for someone with:

  • Relevant qualification in &/or experience related to Youth Work.
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging with vulnerable, isolated young people; in particular young indigenous males.
  • Ability to apply an understanding of the responsibilities associated with working with young people including, confidentiality, duty of care, relevant legislation and professional conduct.
  • Experience in delivering case management and collaboration with key stakeholders; particularly the Justice system.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including report writing, case note writing.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, particularly in working with Indigenous people.
