About the organisation

Established in 1998, the Brain Injury Association of Tasmania (BIAT) provides a public voice for all Tasmanians impacted by brain injury. BIAT is recognised as having specialist knowledge of brain injury and its effects on individuals, families and communities.

Prior to March 2020, BIAT was funded primarily by the Tasmanian Government. With the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) it is now dependent on other sources of funding. The work of the Association now mainly consists of delivering NDIS Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) projects.

Upon application BIAT also receives funding through the Motor Accident Insurance Board (MAIB) Injury Prevention and Management Foundation (IPMF).

About the role

We are seeking a full-time (38 hours per week) Project Officer through to July 2022 for a project called Employ Me, which will focus on employment outcomes for people living with disability and/or brain injury.

The role entails working with the Association’s Executive Officer to expand the scale and scope of a previous employment project. This will facilitate the sustainable and efficient rollout of The Employ Me Project to other cohorts, disabilities and locations.

The primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Work with partner organisations and peer groups, to co-design and adapt materials from the previous project so they are applicable to other cohorts, disabilities and locations;
  • Utilising the previous project methodology and adapted materials, work with people with disability or brain injury who are looking to improve their employment options;
  • Build on existing Disability Employment Service (DES) provider relationships;
  • Support schools to better assist students with disability and their families with transition to work;
  • Provide regular reports to the Executive Officer to ensure allocated tasks within the project plan are completed on time, measures of success have been monitored and considered as part of work undertaken, and the project is within the allocated budget; and
  • Assist with other duties as required.

Due to the state-wide nature of this service, some intrastate travel will be required.

Position criteria:

The Employ Me Project Officer needs to be appropriately qualified and experienced in leading and implementing projects, and also working with people with disability.

Excellent literacy skills, highly developed communication skills and attention to detail are required if you are to be successful in this position. Essential to this role is your capacity to work under pressure with competing demands and deadlines. The successful candidate will need to be able to work autonomously but must also be a strong team player.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrable organisational and coordination skills
  • Strong networking capabilities
  • Talent for building positive working relationships
  • Willingness to travel and have a valid driver’s license
  • Capacity to work outside business hours on occasion
