Our grassroots community development initiatives have connected over 10,000 West Australians, and our work in partnership with citizens, community organisations, researchers and government is changing the conversation around loneliness, isolation and social exclusion. We have bold plans to grow our movement further in 2020, as our organisation enters its next phase of growth.

About the Team

We are a small but mighty team, working in a fairly flat organisational structure, trusting and supporting each other to work autonomously and make informed decisions. We are avid learners, experimenters, collaborators and do-ers. We aspire to develop Befriend as a radically-inclusive, participatory organisation that values the contributions of all, and acts with intention to create spaces for autonomy, connection, growth and fun!

Position Purpose

Our work with community service organisations strives to bring about sustainable change in support practice approaches that improve the social and community connectedness of people with diverse abilities and backgrounds. The focus of the role is to lead learning & development engagements with Befriend’s key partners, with the intention to grow your capabilities to consult on workforce development, service design and strategic change initiatives that nurture connected lives and communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead learning & development engagements – Design, develop and facilitate learning sessions for support staff that develop contemporary support approaches to improve relationship & inclusion outcomes
  • Consult on service models and practice approaches – Act as a content-area expert, collaborating with key partners to build capacity in service models, program designs and staff practices to improve relationship & inclusion outcomes
  • Manage partnerships – Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key partner organisations to support sustainable change

We expect this will include:

  • Workshop facilitation – Facilitating learning sessions in workshop and small-group formats
  • 1:1 coaching – Supporting sustained learning and application of contemporary practice approaches through 1:1 staff coaching consultations
  • Content development – Research, design, development and testing of learning experiences
  • Contributions as a content-area expert – Provide content-area expertise to key partner organisations to support the development of digital learning resources
  • Evaluation activities – Apply quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods to evaluate the outcomes and impact of engagements
  • Research & learning – Stay at the forefront of research and practice approaches in the field of social connectedness, translating these insights for our team, partners and the broader community
  • Sector information-sharing – Sharing insights, learning and stories of impact through conference presentations, sector publications and learning resources
  • Solutions for change – Assisting in analysing partner challenges, generating creative strategies and writing compelling proposals
  • Contributing to the development of Befriend’s sector capacity-building strategy and thought leadership in the space of social connectedness
  • Contributing to internal projects, innovations and ideas that arise through Befriend’s cooperative organisational development work

To be considered for this role, you’ll be:

  • Someone who puts relationships at the heart of their work and life
  • A content-area expert – Knowledgeable in supporting inclusion-focused outcomes, specifically in supporting the development of friendships and relationships
  • Knowledgeable in the community service environment, with experience working in or with organisations that provide supports to people with disability, mental ill-health and older adults
  • A skilful, inclusive facilitator – Ability to facilitate dynamic, productive group discussions in a way that creates a psychologically safe environment and values diverse perspectives
  • Experienced in designing, facilitating and evaluating engaging learning programs
  • Capable of implementing inclusive, engaging learning strategies, including acknowledgement of different learning styles and approaches to learning
  • Curious, with an appreciation for lifelong learning and continuous improvement
  • Able to self-manage and work autonomously, including the ability to manage work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Able to obtain a National Police Clearance

It would also be great if you have:

  • Lived experience as a person with disability, family member or friend
  • Experience with 1:1 coaching
  • Experience with Human Centred Design methods, processes and tools
  • A Certificate IV in Training & Development or equivalent
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in the community sector

Position details & benefits

  • Part-time position (0.8 FTE), fixed-term contract to June 2021 with the intention to become permanent
  • Salary $80,000 pro rata plus superannuation
