The Diversifying Hunter Engagement Lead is a stakeholder engagement role that will support the development of a vision for the Hunter region of a prosperous, healthy, resilient and diversified future. This role will be critical in ensuring the voice of the Hunter is heard throughout the research, and that the outcomes are representative of the opportunities and needs of the Hunter on its journey to diversifying its economy.

  • Employment type - Fixed-term (18 months), part-time (0.6 to 0.8 FTE)
  • Salary - $80,000 to $90,000 plus 9.5% superannuation (paid pro rata)
  • Location - Newcastle and surrounds, NSW
  • Special conditions - Will involve travel, must hold a current drivers licence

The role will support the BZE Principal Researcher to deliver engagement and research that supports the development of reports that show how the Hunter can thrive in a renewable, zero carbon economy. The aim is to build a coalition from across government, business and community to advocate for renewable and zero carbon solutions across the Hunter.

The successful applicant will work closely with BZE staff, Hunter-based BZE volunteers and other BZE volunteers to lead engagement, drawing from BZE’s research and Zero Carbon Communities programs.

The aim is to connect with stakeholders and communities to develop and advocate for a vision and plan for replacing emissions-intensive processes with a diversified range of economic activities that lead to jobs and a healthy, clean, thriving Hunter.

To be successful in this role we are looking for someone with outstanding engagement and communications skills, along with well-developed organisational skills with a high level of emotional intelligence, able to mindfully work with communities who may be feeling vulnerable. It is important to have a strong track record of building and maintaining productive relationships with partners, volunteers and stakeholders.

The successful applicant will need to be committed to BZE’s vision for a Zero Carbon Australia and a shift to a thriving renewable powered economy, and love working collaboratively with people to develop solutions.

This role is based in the Hunter and can be worked flexibly. It will involve travel around the Hunter.
