About the role:

Bethany is excited to advertise for the role of Financial Counsellor based in Geelong. This position is full time fixed term for 6 months, however part time will be considered. The core purpose of this role is to provide financial counselling and support services to people eligible for support under VRGF, DSS and CAV funding criteria for Bethany Community Support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide direction financial counselling serviced related to a wide range of financial issues and difficulties experienced by service users.
  • To undertake the role of a financial counsellor including assessment and referral, negotiation and advocacy with creditors
  • To provide individual, group and community based financial literacy sessions and education to improve financial wellbeing and resilience
  • To adhere to Financial Counselling Australia Ethical guidelines when working with service users

Skills and Attributes:

  • A qualification in Financial Counselling
  • Eligibility for membership of Financial Counselling Victoria (FCVic) and meet the standards, training and supervision requirements set by FCVic
  • A current knowledge of the practices of financial institutions and of effective service delivery models and the ability to work within such frameworks
  • Ability to advise and provide financial information to families and individuals to assist in the resolution of financial issues at various levels including crisis intervention, intake and assessment and planned financial counselling.
