bestchance is seeking to appoint Non-Executive Directors / Board members which is an extraordinary opportunity for individuals who are passionate about our mission to contribute to the leadership and governance of a world leading early years and special needs educational organisation. Board Members are encouraged to have achieved leadership stature in relevant services, government, philanthropy, or the not for profit sector.

The role requires attending approximately 10 board meetings a year as well as membership on at least one of the following Board committees:

Meets ten times a year:

  • Finance and Audit

Meets at least four times a year:

  • Quality and Risk
  • Governance

In addition, it may be necessary to take part in conference calls from time to time. Further, it is expected that board members attend a number of organisation related functions each year.

As a volunteer position, service on the Board as a Non-Executive Director/Board member is without remuneration.

bestchance Child Family Care is an independent, not-for-profit, community organisation based in Glen Waverley and operating across five local government areas in Victoria.

Organisation Context

bestchance adopts an innovative and holistic approach to assisting children and families by integrating a range of specialist family oriented educational and welfare community services.

The range of programs delivered include Kindergarten, Child Care, Early Childhood Intervention, Parent and Child Support, Training, Community Support and Cheshire School - an independent, primary school for children with social, emotional and learning difficulties. We recognise that the early years of a child's life are the most formative and influential and we strive to adhere to the principles of 'best practice'. This commitment ensures that families are, at all times, respected as the experts on their children and supported in an environment that is strength based and family centred.

bestchance works in partnership with families in managing a number of kindergartens under the Early Years Management model.

YOU WILL HAVE

  • Knowledge of non-executive Director’s responsibilities including legal, ethical, fiduciary and financial responsibilities.
  • Strategic expertise evidenced by an ability to review strategy through constructive questioning and contribute to effective Board decision making.
  • Financial ability such that can read and comprehend organisational financial accounts and related material.
  • Legal capability to the extent that can effectively oversee compliance with relevant laws as well as understanding the non-executive Director’s individual duties and responsibilities.
  • Risk management experience as evidenced by ability to understand the core concepts of risk recognition, risk tolerance and risk mitigation as related to an organisation of bestchance’s size and industry.
  • Communication experience relating to strategic vision, engagement and branding.
  • Industry knowledge and experience in similar organisation or industries.
