Disability Supporter

BESPOKE LIFESTYLES
  • Disability Supporter in Logan region
  • Overnight support
  • Private Family
  • 10-20 hours per week

I am a clever, quick witted lad in my early 40’s living in the Logan region. I live in my own home and love being with my family, watching sports, cars and going to the pub.

I acquired a brain injury a few years ago and life looks a lot different to what I had anticipated. It can be frustrating at times, but I now have a team of loyal and knowledgeable supporters who help me to maintain my home, prepare meals and attend to my personal care needs. I am also looking forward to getting involved with my local football community, exploring my love of cars and attending some music gigs.

The Role

I am currently looking for someone to join my team who can provide me with overnight support and assistance up to 3 days a week. It’s a straightforward role, you’ll help me to prepare an evening meal, complete some light household duties and assist with personal care. I don’t usually require any assistance overnight, but it’s nice to know someone is there If I need anything.

Hours

To start with, while we get to know each other, a typical evening will start at 8pm and I’ll be ready to watch DVD’s on my own in bed. I then require someone in the morning from 6-9am for personal care supports. Supporters usually rotate their days on a fortnightly basis so availability every second Monday, Wednesday and Saturday is required. Availability every Thursday is also preferred. However, as you will be part of a team, there will be times that I’ll need support on other days while other supporters are on leave or unavailable. Flexible availability is key for my supporters!

About You

I’m looking for a mature female who is easy going and happy to share a laugh and a joke. Qualifications aren’t required however experience and confidence in providing personal care is a must. I sometimes prefer my own company which is tricky for me to navigate when I also need some support. It’s not personal but if you’re happy to enjoy some peace and quiet during those times, that would be great. Of course, if you have an interest in watching footy that would get us off to a great start.

Being easy to get along with, adaptable and flexible around how people are feeling would be some of your key strengths. You’d also view yourself as professional, reflective in practice and keen to embrace professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Flexible, positive and loyal approach
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experienced in providing personal care
  • Drivers licence
  • Current positive notice for working with vulnerable people or willingness to obtain
  • Weekend and weekday availability.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours when other supporters are on leave.

The Offer

  • Supportive and positive environment, with training and professional development opportunities provided
  • Detailed orientation and ongoing supervision
  • Casual, above award hourly and sleep over rate offered
