The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Foster Care Assessor who will build and strengthen our pool of committed foster carers through effective recruitment strategies, rigorous assessment, coaching, and training. Not only will they bring the greatest foster carers along the Berry Street journey, you will create positive moments and supports them in the valuable work they do.

The Hume Out of Home Care program provides Complex, Intensive and General Home-Based Care for children and young people who have experienced trauma from family violence, child abuse and neglect and now are unable to live with their own families.

This position will service the Hume Region that includes the Shires of Mitchell, Murrindindi, Strathbogie, City of Greater Shepparton and the Shire of Moira.

Key Responsibilities

You will work within Berry Street already established foster care framework ensuring the assessment process relating to the applicant's experiences and actions are in contexts and draw conclusions as to how this will impact on their ability to provide foster care in accordance with legislative and policy requirements.

The position will be jointly responsible for managing foster carer enquiries, delivering information sessions to prospective carers, undertaking assessments on prospective carers, pre-assessment training of prospective carers, engaging the current pool of accredited carers, the completion of carer annual reviews and monitoring compliance requirements on current accredited carers

The Foster Care Assessor will be involved in the delivery of a comprehensive recruitment strategy with the aim of having a enough pool of trained and accredited carers to meet the needs of children requiring foster care.

The successful candidate will be able to work as part of a supportive team, but independently and with autonomy.

About You

As a Senior Foster Care Assessor, you will have;

  • Experience conducting comprehensive assessments (experience using Step by Step would be an advantage)
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to see or hear that little piece of information or inconsistency that would determine suitability for foster carers
  • Comfortable having tough conversations in a sensitive and appropriate way
  • Capacity to engage with people from all walks of life and adapt to changing circumstances
  • A relevant tertiary qualification
