Berry Street's Residential Care Programs provide accommodation, care and support to children and young people. With multiple sites across Victoria, our houses are staffed on a 24-hour roster, 7 days a week. Most shifts are 8 hours in length and day and afternoon shifts span the hours of 7am and 11pm and are required to be able available to work night and stand up shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working closely with Children and Young People who may display complex issues, possible trauma affectation and disabilities.
  • Supporting Children and Young People with major behaviours of concern within a positive and therapeutic framework.
  • Assistance with activities of daily living, this includes spending quality time in the home, cooking meals, undertaking household duties and participating in their daily activities as required.
  • Documentation and progress note keeping as required.

About You

Additionally, you will have:

  • A genuine desire to contribute to the wellbeing and development of the children/young people in our care
  • Resilience and awareness of self and others
  • Quick and logical thinking during a crisis or conflict
  • An ability to engage positively with children/young people and your team
  • A thirst to continuously learn, reflect from the day and consider how you could improve your own practice
  • Professionalism; the role will require you to work collaboratively with many external services that support the children/young people
  • Must hold a driver’s licence (minimum green P’s) as the role will transport young people from time to time

A minimum Cert IV in Children, Youth & Family Intervention is preferred however as an RTO, Berry Street delivers this qualification and will invest in you if you do not have a relevant qualification.

Completion of (or willingness to complete) mandatory upskilling units as required by Department of Health and Human Services. Berry Street also provides this in-house.
