The Opportunity

Berry Street’s goal is to provide a high quality out of home care service that’s responsive to the specific needs of children and young people who are at risk or who have experienced the trauma of family violence, child abuse and neglect. 

The Home Based Care program provides Foster Care services across the newly merged region of South East Victoria. The Home Based Care team ensures placements are well resourced, ensuring carer recruitment, support, development and supervision is at a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

The Assessment Practitioner will primarily be responsible for:

  • Responding to prospective foster carer inquires.
  • Delivery of Information Sessions to prospective foster carers from the community.
  • Participation in the delivery of pre-accreditation training (Shared Lives) of prospective foster carers and on-going training requirements of accredited carers.
  • Undertaking assessments of foster care (Step by Step).
  • Undertaking annual reviews for foster carers.

About You

You will be passionate about making a positive contribution to children, young people and their families and have exceptional communication skills to easily build rapport with prospective Foster Carers.

  • Bachelor’s degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology or a related discipline.
  • Well-developed understanding of the welfare sector, attachment and trauma theories, and the stages of child development.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously.
