Who are we?

BEING – Mental Health Consumers is the independent, NSW peak organisation speaking with and for people with lived/living experience of mental health issues, emotional distress, and suicidal crises. Our primary focus is to ensure the voices of people with mental health issues are heard by decision makers, service providers, and the community, and leads and influences systemic change in services and systems.

BEING – Mental Health Consumers is committed to human rights principles of diversity, inclusion, and equity and believes that recovery is possible for all people who live with mental health issues and emotional distress.

The BEING Leadership Academy is a new program run by BEING – Mental Health Consumers and will offer a range of short courses & workshops that are underpinned by co-design and co-production principles, offering opportunities to enhance knowledge & skills to self-empower and provide leadership pathways for the future. We embrace inclusivity and are informed by recovery-oriented and trauma informed practice.

The Role:

• Sourcing relevant information on the topic
• Writing a range of recovery focused learning materials, including session plans, learner activities, resources, and PowerPoint presentations for the topic

Other information:

• Contracts for Course Writers are dependent on the type and duration of courses to be developed
• An ABN will be required / or we will assist in sourcing one

Selection Criteria:

• Lived/living experience of mental health issues, and ability to bring your experiences and skills to writing content for courses and workshops
• Previous experience writing course content, development of learner activities and resources, and creation of PowerPoint presentations
• Knowledge of trauma informed and recovery-oriented practice and understanding of how to develop courses through this lens
• Strong understanding of Adult Learning Principles and the ability to apply these toward course development
• Demonstrated ability to meet tight timelines
• Demonstrated ability to produce quality, ready to use courses, learner activities, resources, and PowerPoint slides on topic point
• Exceptional written communication skills
• Good computer literacy
• Must be a resident and currently living in NSW
