Who we are

We are the Australian Climate and Biodiversity Foundation (ACBF), a well-funded not-for-profit organisation with an actionable plan to protect and regenerate our forests. Our 2030 vision is to protect, restore and enhance Australia’s native forests and woodlands, to safeguard their biodiversity values and carbon stocks.

At the heart of our plan is a ‘backbone organisation’ of experts and advocates. It’s a concept derived from research on ‘collective impact’.

Unlike past efforts, we’re spotlighting the value of working with partners from the environmental movement, the business and investor communities, the scientific community, first nations organisations, political decision-makers, and leaders from rural and regional Australia to drive change at every level.

This is not a grass roots effort. Our organisation is governed by a Board chaired by Dr Ken Henry and the directors are experienced and well-connected leaders from the public service, the business community and philanthropy.

As you will have gathered, we are looking for someone with the drive and energy to take on this challenge. We know you may currently be working in a different role, if not a totally different industry.

As Head of Programme you will work with our leadership team to:

• Lead the development of campaign strategies and tactics with partners consistent with the ‘common agenda’ and the three foundational campaign areas to a) Build the Foundations (of the project), b) Protect the Forests, and c) Restore the Forests.
• Lead the creation and execution of the work plans of specialist contractors and ACBF staff to deliver campaign strategies and tactics.
• Work with the Executive Director and Head of Funding and Impact to support and advise prospective partners/existing grantees in developing strategies, tactical projects, work plans & funding proposals.
• Support the strengthening of the backbone’s CRM and grant-making strategies, policies, and systems when working with collective impact partners and grantees, identifying gaps in capacity and finding solutions to keep the funded work on track.

Relevant skills

We expect you to be able to demonstrate an affinity for this role. If you don’t strictly meet every criteria in this list, we would still be interested in hearing what makes you a fantastic fit.

Ideally, you will have:

• At least 10 years relevant practical experience leading programmes of this nature.
• Commitment to the mission of the organisation & demonstrated high level knowledge of the policy and campaign drivers to enable the long term conservation, management and restoration of native forests in Australia.
• Previous experience working in not for profits or start ups.
• Experience in working as part of a physically dispersed team.
• Highly developed communication and collaboration skills.

• Interstate and international travel will be required
