About the Role

The Head of Philanthropy will make a considerable impact on the team and program through the successful development and implementation of a new, national strategy.

Leading a national team, the Head of Philanthropy is a key position within the Foundation and has responsibility for growing both middle and major supporters, bequests and trusts and foundations.

Focusing on the needs of supporters, this position will oversee the development of engaging cases for support, products, programs, and retention journeys to grow the value of philanthropy and transform engagement with donors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop the organisational strategy and approach to increasing engagement with Major supporters, Mid-level supporters, Bequests and Trusts and Foundations.
  • Ensure that the budget requirements are met, and an increase of funds are available in line with budget targets.
  • Proactively identifying potential donors, high net worth individuals, private ancillary funds and bequest donors with a view to developing relationships/partnerships and funding streams.
  • Personally manage a portfolio of new and existing prospects & supporters.
  • Oversee and support the development of products and propositions that are compelling, are financially sustainable and feasible for the Foundation to execute on.
  • Develop and implement policies, processes, tools and templates to support a focussed, ethical and mutually beneficial and measurable engagement with supporters.
  • Lead, develop and engage direct reports to deliver positive impact and progress aligned to organisational priorities, vision and value.
  • Be a contributing member of the Senior Leadership Team (Heads Of) assuming organisational leadership responsibilities pertaining to strategy and ways of working.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven track record of relevant achievement and positive impact in related Fundraising positions.
  • Proven leadership, and effective national team management experience.
  • Significant demonstrated experience in managing and growing a major gifts program.
  • Experience in national strategy development and implementation.
  • Experience in budget development including multi-year forecasting and reporting.
  • Sound judgement and strategic decision making.
  • Exceptional, demonstrated knowledge of major gift fundraising, donor journey mapping and retention techniques.
  • Exceptional excellent communication (verbal and written), negotiation and presentation skills.
