Heart Research Australia is a national health charity, that raises vital funds for researchers to conduct ground-breaking research into the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart disease.

About the role

Reporting to the CEO, this role will have a focus on financial oversight and reporting while also being accountable for smooth operations in the organisation. You will manage two direct reports and collaborate closely across the broader team to achieve organisational objectives!

  • Manage a high-performing team, a part-time Finance Officer and a part-time IT Specialist
  • Assist with the preparation of Board and Finance & Audit Committee (FAC) meeting papers
  • Process month end tasks and prepare monthly finance reports.
  • Prepare quarterly Board finance reports and present to the board.
  • Review Quarterly BAS Statements for Lodgement and Payment of Monthly IAS prepared by external accountants
  • Prepare and assist the Honorary Auditors with the annual audit process
  • Manage the monthly payroll process assisted by the External Accounts
  • Manage the annual budget process including presenting to the Board for approval
  • Manage staff records including holiday & sick leave; review and maintain HR policies and procedures
  • Manage any requirements for remote/hybrid working arrangements and general office administration
  • Provide key operational support across the broader team – from applying for fundraising licences & renewing insurances to project managing IT upgrades

The successful candidate

This is a hands-on, process-driven role that is critical for ensuring smooth running operations within finance, compliance, office management and legislative requirements. The ability to be a creative problem solver and communicate across a variety of internal and external stakeholders is key in this role.

  • Has finance qualifications, and experience in the NFP sector (an understanding of finance as it relates to fundraising will be highly regarded)
  • Is a flexible thinker, is solution-focused and at ease working in a small team environment, as well as be able to work well remotely/autonomously
  • Is action-orientated, with strong time management skills
  • Is tech-savvy, an Excel whiz, and able to troubleshoot common IT issues – Salesforce experience is highly desirable but not a must-have
  • Has an interest in meaningful work and a customer service-focused mindset
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and is able to be articulate with confidence whilst speaking with the board
