With over 17,000 youth and adult members from various cultural and religious backgrounds and with varying abilities, Scouts is one of the largest and most successful youth organisations in the state. With a focus on leadership development and the outdoors, Scouts have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of activities. They range from ‘traditional Scouting skills’ such as camping and bush craft, through to abseiling, canoeing and even flying, as well as performing arts, and environmental initiatives.

about the role

Working closely with the Board, Chief Commissioner, and the Deputy Chief Commissioners a central focus of the role is on ensuring the delivery of exceptional customer service to the volunteer membership, assisting the membership to deliver the Scout Program, and leading some 40 employees of the NSW office in facilitating the operation of a large and complex organisation.

The key outcome for the first 12 months is to implement the Sustainable Scouting program, designed to support the growth and advancement of Scouts NSW.

about you

Scouts NSW is looking for a leader with the following:

  • A personal commitment to the Aim and Principles of Scouts Australia and a demonstrated ability to understand and engage on youth issues.
  • Substantial relevant business experience and success at a high level leading teams through change in a variety of roles and/or businesses, ideally including not-for-profit and volunteer/membership organisations.
  • Deep experience in engagement and stakeholder management with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • High level skills in establishing organisational goals, developing strategic and operational plans, and driving implementation.
  • High level experience in the development, management and analysis of operating plans budgets and financial models, and in cost analysis and the development of financial policies.

Please note:

  • The role requires engagement with a large number of volunteers. There will be some contact in the evenings and on weekends.
  • Applicants are required to have a current Working with Children Check clearance (WWCC), or provide evidence of having made an application for a WWCC, noting that acquiring and maintaining a WWCC is an essential condition of employment. Candidates selected for interview will also be required to undergo a background check and a National Police Check.
