ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

The Sydney Adventist Hospital known as the ‘San’, is now the largest private (and largest non-profit) hospital in NSW. The San Foundation was established in 1987 as The Sydney Adventist Hospital Foundation. The purpose of the Foundation is to support the hospital as it grows to meet the evolving healthcare needs of their community.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Bequest Manager supports the San Foundation by developing and maintaining a range of donor, community, and internal stakeholder relationships. Primarily, the role will manage the Foundation’s Planned Giving program, successfully creating a new strategy with a view to grow the pipeline and increase supporters’ year-on-year.

This position will leverage strong relationship skills to inspire new bequests and donors who would like to leave a gift in memory or honour of a loved one, as well as continue to nurture long standing relationships with existing donors through the development and implementation of a targeted program which will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a Gifts in Wills strategy including the development of a Bequest society group
  • Develop an annual calendar of engagement activities including high-quality events and activities line with the Gifts in Wills strategy
  • Liaise with existing donors, potential and confirmed bequestors
  • Grow the bequest pipeline through donor stewardship, campaign management, mailings, surveys, events
  • Support the development of the “In Memorium” website page to allow for families and friends to donate to the organisation
  • Develop the San Foundation Bequest society – a new initiative
  • Effectively handle enquiries from supporters, solicitors and the general public
  • Ensure that donor information is recorded and updated in accordance with department policy and procedure
  • Prepare reporting for distribution and reviews internally
  • Support the Marketing team with the promotion of bequest stories
  • Maintain accurate records of the administration of estates, bequests and anticipated bequests
  • Ensure active estates are being properly administered in a timely manner and funds are allocated and expended
  • Manage the preparation and installation of any donor plaques or donor recognition boards for bequest

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Fundraising experience preferably within Gift in Wills, Mid Value or Major Gifts
  • Strong track record in planning and managing a donor or membership program
  • Exceptional relationship management and stewardship skills and the ability build personable, meaningful relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, strong presentation skills and confidence public speaking
  • Well-developed marketing, communication, and fundraising skills
  • Ability to handle matters of a sensitive and confidential nature
  • High level organisation and planning skills
  • Experience working with a database management system
  • High levels of empathy and compassion and a passion for working in the sector
