About the Role:

The overall goal of the study is to explore new ways of doing mental health treatment research, by using artificial intelligence (AI) to run clinical trials. The Vibe Up study will use AI-driven response adaptive randomisation to identify the most effective treatment for reducing psychological distress in university students, as quickly as possible. Using a smartphone app, the study aims to reduce distress and improve mental well-being through a very-brief two-week intervention of mindfulness, physical activity, or sleep hygiene.

Key Duties:

Research

  • Undertake literature searches, screening titles and abstracts, and conduct comprehensive reviews.
  • Contribute to the preparation of research outputs, including reports and manuscripts for publication in high impact journals.
  • Assist the project manager with day-to-day running of Vibe Up trials and ensure protocols and procedures are adhered to.
  • Assist with the preparation of ethics applications, abstracts, posters, conference presentations and grant applications, and perform general administrative duties.
  • Assist with recruitment, and communications with participants.
  • Undertake data collection and maintenance activities, including database management and analysis.
  • Conduct data analysis and interpretation, in consultation with a statistician.
  • Ensure compliance is carried out with all relevant research ethics and other University policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Information Technology

  • Assist with user acceptance testing of the study mobile app and work collaboratively with IT and User Experience Teams as necessary.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Maintain relationships and have clear open communication with the wider research team, other areas of the organisation and key stakeholder groups
  • Collaborate with researchers and stakeholders associated with the project and research group, and participate in meetings and discussions as required.

About You:

The successful candidate will have the following:

Essential Criteria

  1. A tertiary degree with honours in psychology, or public health, or a related discipline.
  2. Experience in undertaking literature searches and reviews, and synthesis of academic research literature, reports, and other material.
  3. Highly advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a strong demonstrated capability of writing for diverse range of audiences including writing research reports and manuscripts.
  4. Excellent analytical skills, with the capacity to comprehend complex ideas quickly.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and build positive relationships.
  6. An ability to work both in a team and independently, with a high level of flexibility and initiative with minimal supervision.
  7. Strong organisational skills with proven ability to meet deadlines, demonstrate effective time management, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  8. Strong computing skills with Microsoft Office.
  9. Knowledge of equal opportunity principles.
  10. Knowledge of OHS responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant OHS training.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Experience in a research translation setting, preferably in mental health or public health
