About the Role:

The purpose of this role is to build the Institute’s reputation for thought leadership in mental health science and support advocacy around key issues.

The PR and Events manager will grow thought leadership and advocacy capacity and capability through the delivery of the thought leadership events and communications, as well as proactive identification and leveraging of thought leadership opportunities such as white papers and through media relations.

This role works at both strategic and operational levels and is responsible for both strategy and execution to achieve organisational aims.

Key Duties:

  • Work collaboratively with the marketing and communications, government relations and research teams to develop thought leadership and media strategies to achieve organisational goals
  • Development of key messages for agreed topics
  • Development of internal working groups and networks
  • Delivery of thought leadership events and communications including management of events agency
  • Copywriting and content creation
  • Risk and Issues management
  • Media relations including production of media releases, pitching, responding to reactive requests
  • Media training
  • Be the key contact for internal stakeholders and external suppliers for matters relating to thought leadership initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with the marketing and communications, government relations and research teams to identify new opportunities, leverage existing activity and create efficiencies
  • Milestone reporting across all activity against agreed KPIs
  • Relevant administration related to the role such as meeting minutes, budget tracking, attending marketing & communications team meetings

About You:

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in journalism, communications, marketing or similar field
  • A minimum of seven years' experience in communications and events
  • Proven success in thought leadership to achieve organisational goals
  • Previous experience working with executive and/or C-suite level stakeholders
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to positively influence outcomes and develop and maintain productive working relationships
  • Proactive, solution-focused approach to work

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working with academics, scientists or similar
