About the Role:

The purpose of this position is to lead the establishment and implementation of a project management framework for Black Dog Institute; the position will effectively manage research project operations in line with the framework. The framework will ensure we have the tools, systems and processes required across our expanding translational research program.

Working closely with our research, innovation, translation and corporate services teams, the position will be responsible for the set-up, conduct and overall delivery of key strategic initiatives across our suicide prevention, workplace mental health, digital mental health and clinical services translational research streams.

Key Duties:

  • Design, establish and lead a project management framework for the organisation, ensuring we have the tools, systems, processes and ongoing capacity building embedded in our operational framework.
  • Lead the development, implementation and delivery of operational plans and budgets across each project.
  • Manage project teams in the timely development and delivery of large-scale research implementation projects.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and partners critical to project success.
  • In conjunction with the Director and lead investigators, oversee the development of appropriate resourcing, systems and processes to manage delivery of the projects.
  • Manage contract negotiations, deliverables, reporting and relationships with funding bodies including Commonwealth and State Government agencies, philanthropic bodies and competitive grant agencies.
  • Manage compliance and risk, ensuring mitigation strategies are effectively implemented.

About You:

The successful candidate will have the following:

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in project or business management or equivalent years of experience
  • Minimum eight years’ experience in senior project management role within a research or academic environment
  • Demonstrated capability in developing and managing projects that meet strategic and program goals, within agreed timeframes and budgetary goals
  • Demonstrated ability to lead planning and budgeting processes to achieve project establishment and operational delivery
  • Demonstrated strong problem solving, analytical skills and proven strategic thinking
  • Exceptional leadership and mentoring skills and capability of motivating and energising high-performing teams
  • A proven ability to manage contract negotiation, delivery, reporting and relationship management, delivering projects to time and budget
  • Excellent organisation, time management and prioritisation
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and to be adaptable to changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments
  • Outstanding communication skills, with demonstrated ability to leverage relationships and networks of internal and external stakeholders to positively influence outcomes.

Desirable

  • Experience in the not for profit sector
  • Experience in research and/or translational research areas that are consistent with the mission and objectives of Black Dog Institute.
