About the Role:

Black Dog Institute is currently implementing a five-year plan to further improve and expand on being a trusted partner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The plan was developed to identify key strategic areas for change across the organisation. This is a long-term plan with unanimous support to fully implement the recommendations and is the first time we have seen this level of commitment to partnering with and improving the Social and Emotional Wellbeing of in collaboration and partnership with First Nations communities. A newly formed unit will take stewardship under the leadership of the Head of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Strategy in collaboration with the Director of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Strategy to implement the plan.

Key Duties:

• Actively contribute to the Institute’s 2022-206 strategic plan and establish priorities in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health and suicide prevention in line with that strategic plan.
• Establish meaningful engagements and relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through sponsorship and support of events and conferences, fundraising and awareness raising initiatives, and knowledge exchange programs.
• Position the importance of BDI’s Reconciliation Action Plan across the organisation.
• Establish and lead the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Strategy Delivery team, providing inspiring and motivating day to day leadership, embedding the values of Black Dog Institute into all that the team does and across the wider organisation.
• Provide leadership in our strategy in developing partnerships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to support the social and emotional wellbeing of their communities.
• Build cultural awareness and cultural capacity across the Institute.
• Review scientific literature pertaining to implementation practices and apply these concepts in the planning and delivery of projects
• Write and develop resources, tools and implementation guides to support implementation and ongoing quality assurance of training materials and programs

About You:

The successful candidate will have the following:

Essential Criteria

• Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline e.g public health, psychology or behavioural science, mental health or suicide prevention, project management, social science or another relevant discipline
• 5 years’ experience in a related field, including strong project management expertise
• Demonstrated ability to design, implement and manage large projects to time and on budget (3+ years of experience required)
• Demonstrated ability to produce or influence outcomes by managing a variety of internal and external stakeholders, vendors and contractors utilising excellent consultation, liaison and negotiation skills
• Proven ability to work flexibly, collaboratively and adapt as necessary to the demands of multiple project
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail
• Self-starter with a proven ability to work independently and contribute effectively as a team member
• Experience in health, mental health or suicide prevention fields
• High level of computer literacy

Desirable Criteria

• Experience working within or closely with primary and acute health sector organisations in both government and non-government fields
• Experience in change management or research within the health or related sectors
• Experience in the not for profit sector
• Business development experience
