About the role

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, this position provides short term mental health early intervention to children and young people aged five to eighteen years who have been identified as being at risk of mental illness in the ACT. This includes provision of therapeutic interventions and parenting support for parents.
This position will provide interventions to enhance the psychosocial outcomes for children and young people experiencing social and emotional difficulties and support strong relationships between children and adult caregivers. The role will provide families with flexible options to access support that meet their individual needs, and work with other professionals and agencies to enhance participant outcomes.

Role Requirements:

  • Required to hold a current driver’s license and have access to a roadworthy, registered and comprehensively insured vehicle for work purposes.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology or Social Work. If you are a psychologist, current registration or eligibility for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia to practice as a psychologist. For Social Worker’s you must be eligible for Qualified Social Worker Membership with the AASW.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continual learning and professional development
  • Sound understanding of child development from five to eighteen years.
  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health and developmental issued and their relationship to child development.
  • Provide children and young people with early intervention individualised therapeutic support aimed at improving their mental health and resilience.
  • Extensive experience in using a range of models and strategies to observe, assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
  • Experience in interventions using a family and person centred approach in providing individual and group therapy to children, young people and their families.
