position summary

The University Student Engagement Coordinator (RMIT) will be one of the batyr reps on campus at RMIT to work alongside RMIT Wellbeing team. The role will include supporting 2 volunteer groups of student leaders (batyr@RMIT Exec) to deliver events, initiatives and campaigns on campus to engage all students in positive mental health conversations. One of these executives will have a focus on Vocational Education student engagement, although this role will support both teams to work collaboratively.

Working alongside the University Program Coordinator (RMIT) from batyr, the role will be pivotal in building a batyr presence amongst students and staff within the university and to the success of the partnership more broadly. The university program at RMIT is aimed at reducing stigma and increasing help seeking behaviour for young people, promoting the message that it’s ok to not be ok.

The University Student Engagement Coordinator (RMIT) will report to the VIC/SA State Manager in Melbourne.

All candidates will need to hold a current Working with Children Check and Police Check, or be willing to obtain these within one (1) month of starting the role.

key responsibilities

  • Drive batyr@RMIT Student Executive (volunteer) recruitment, as well as oversight, training and guidance throughout their involvement
  • Support the Student Executives to work collaboratively and deliver engaging student led events and campaigns to reach as many students on campus as possible
  • Liaise with University stakeholders to support the delivery of batyr@RMIT events and campaigns
  • Ensure successful completion of key deliverables outlined in the batyr@RMIT partnership agreement, within clearly established timelines, procedures and guidelines
  • Provide advice and feedback to the VIC/SA State Manager around what is tracking well and areas of improvement for the batyr program at RMIT
  • Support additional projects as required by the VIC/SA State Manager, including supporting delivery of batyr@uni RMIT programs or other ad hoc programs or events within the VIC region
  • Assist the University Program Coordinator (RMIT) and VIC Being Herd team in the recruitment of students for batyr@uni programs and Being Herd workshops
  • Collaborative and effective teamwork with University stakeholders; the University Program Coordinator (RMIT), the VIC/SA State Manager, the VIC/SA team, the batyr@uni team and the wider batyr team

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Proven ability to work well in a small team, as well as work independently with little supervision
  • Experience training, engaging and coordinating groups of people
  • Experience in event planning and/or project management
  • Active interest in tackling the stigma around mental health, as well as a desire to facilitate positive behavioural change for young people
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with experience working under pressure

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Experience in preventative mental health, youth sector, Universities and/or not for profit sector
  • Public speaking skills, with experience putting together presentations and engaging audiences
  • Experience using Confluence, Salesforce (or other CRM platform) and Google Drive.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Development
  • Full driver’s license
