Position summary

The Program Coordinator (SA) will be part of the VIC/SA regional team and be responsible for the coordination and delivery of batyr’s programs in South Australia including batyr@school, batyr@work and Being Herd. These programs are separate but integrated and are central to achieving batyr’s mission. The Program Coordinator (SA) will build relationships within the community with schools, young people, mental health services, workplaces and potential supporters to grow our reach and impact across all our programs.

The role will include Being Herd workshop planning and delivery, speaker development and ongoing speaker support and engagement. The Program Coordinator (SA) will also work closely with the Program Bookings Coordinator (SA) to ensure strong relationships with our school partners. They will also be responsible for the coordination and delivery of batyr’s programs on the ground. They will work closely with the rest of the VIC/SA team, as well as the wider batyr team, ensuring quality and consistency across our programs.

This role will report directly to the State Manager VIC/SA based in Melbourne. There is scope for this role to grow and change, as these programs become more established in the work that we do.

All candidates will need to hold a current Working with Children Check and Police Check, or be willing to obtain these within one (1) month of starting the role.

Key responsibilities

  • Follow current processes to conduct the recruitment, organisation, participant assessment and support for Being Herd workshops
  • Facilitate Being Herd workshops when necessary in a safe and engaging way
  • Induct and work with speakers through speaker development meetings to develop and tailor their stories in a safe and effective way for program delivery
  • Staff appropriate speakers on batyr’s programs in South Australia and provide them with ongoing support, engagement and feedback
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders to enhance batyr’s presence in South Australia including with schools and other mental health and community organisations
  • Coordinate and deliver batyr programs in South Australia including supporting casual program coordinators and facilitators
  • Make use of current internal processes and assist the VIC/SA team as well as working closely with the entire batyr team on program development and implementation of new processes as necessary
  • Support the broader VIC/SA team and the State Manager (VIC/SA) with ad hoc tasks as required

Essential selection criteria

  • High level of empathy, with the ability to maintain emotional boundaries while creating a safe space for young people to be vulnerable and explore their stories
  • Mental health literacy and knowledge of the common experiences young people have with mental ill health
  • Demonstrated ability to work remotely and/or independently
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and written, with presentation & facilitation experience
  • Demonstrated experience in program coordination and delivery, or event coordination
  • Skills in building and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders
  • Excellent organisational skills with a proven ability to work to tight deadlines and juggle competing priorities
  • Ability to travel interstate when necessary and deliver workshops on weekends or other programs as they arise
  • Current driver’s license

Desirable selection criteria

  • 2 + years experience working in the mental health and/or education sectors
  • Mental Health First Aid and/or experience supporting young people in distress
  • Experience using Salesforce, Confluence, Zoom and/or Google Suite
