BASS Care

Younger Onset Dementia Club Facilitator

BASScare is a community not for profit which operates an integrated program of services for older people who wish to remain active and engaged with their local communities. Our services include meals-on-wheels, residential care facilities, respite care, dementia specific day and overnight care and retirement living. As well as planned activity groups at two day centres in Boroondara.

At BASScare, we actively engage with clients, their families, friends and carers to determine their expectations of care and provide the best possible level of residential and community care services.

Maranoa House Dementia Day Care Centre has been providing dementia day care and respite service to people living with dementia for 33 years. In response to our clients wanting a welcoming, secure and homely environment we are opening a club in a neighbouring house.

The Club will provide people with an early onset dementia diagnosis with the opportunity to engage with people from their community who have the same diagnoses. Where they can feel comfortable, knowing that others around them know what it is like to live with younger onset dementia. The club is designed to be self-managed, a place where people are free to come and go with no set times. A range of programs to suit the abilities of people with younger onset dementia will be offered and supported by a team of qualified staff and trained Volunteers. The aim of the club is to decrease social isolation of people with early onset dementia and their carers.
