Barwon Child, Youth & Family (BCYF) is an independent, not-for-profit community service organisation that provides, delivers and develops, where the need exists, services that advance the rights and well-being of children, young people and their families across Geelong and the wider Barwon Region.

BCYF has a breadth of services ranging from prevention and early intervention to complex care, which are delivered via a strong and diverse client services platform comprising Early Years, Out-of-Home Care, Youth, headspace Geelong, Family & Community, and AOD & Mental Health services.

Governed by an independent Board of Directors and supported by an experienced leadership team, BCYF employs more than 330 staff and is committed to achieving its vision of a community where people are safe, connected and empowered to live well.

About this Executive Role

Reporting to the CEO, and a key member of the Executive Management Team, as the Executive Director Client Services you will be expected to:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across BCYF;
  • Provide leadership, direction and support to the Client Services Directorate, which incorporates BCYF’s client services platforms;
  • Lead the development and implementation of high quality and safe services and programs to children, young people and their families;
  • Lead a team of highly skilled practitioners in the delivery of services and programs, with emphasis on evidence based interventions;
  • Ensure a continuous improvement approach to service delivery aligned to best practice principles and a learning culture; and
  • Demonstrate leadership through advocacy, learning culture, service development and sound financial stewardship.

About You

To be successful in this position, you will be an outstanding and highly ethical leader, with the capacity to initiate, lead and manage change in a challenging and dynamic environment, while concurrently achieving strategic and operational objectives. With significant experience in the leadership of a human service delivery system in a complex environment, you will be a strong relationship builder, collegiate, and at the forefront of planning, development and management of human services program delivery. You will have strong people and service management and development skills, and a successful track record in the provision of evidence-based services with a sound risk and Governance framework.

It is also essential that you have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification(s) in human services (i.e., social work/psychology or equivalent) and post graduate qualification in a clinical and/or management discipline (desirable).
  • High level management skills, ability to align teams with BCYF’s values and purpose, providing effective people management and role modelling expected behaviours.
  • High level written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare business cases balancing complex social, economic, environmental and political issues.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills to engage, build strong relationships and develop mutually beneficial alliances and partnerships with stakeholders, supported by a track record of being able to form relationships with community and government leaders.
  • Team oriented, collaborative approach, with the ability to support and contribute to the Executive Management Team at a strategic level.
