Barry Beckett Children’s Centre is a not-for-profit community-based service, that offers both long day care and sessional kindergarten programs for 93 children per day. Social justice is our core value at Barry Beckett, including a deep commitment to sustainability, reconciliation and equal access to education for all children. Family volunteers make up the Committee of Management that governs Barry Beckett.

The Committee of Management is seeking a part-time Administrator/Consultant for a fixed-term contract of 12 months, for 6.5 hours per month, comprising of

(a) 1.5 hours attendance at Committee meetings (once a month 7:15 - 8:45pm on alternating Tues, Wed, Thurs)

(b) 5 hours additional tasks (timing flexible work from home)

Main Duties/Responsibilities

  • preparing and submitting documentation required for regulatory compliance and maintaining our license
  • drafting and updating Committee policies and terms of reference
  • ensuring operational consistency in the event of turn-over in parent volunteers
  • obtaining and synthesizing advice for Committee from Early Learning Association of Australia (ELAA), Community Childcare (CCC), Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VECCI) and other consultants on HR, financial management, regulatory compliance and other matters
  • opportunity to provide input to support operational improvement and governance
  • induction of new Committee members
  • file management and archiving

All tasks will be carried out with close supervision and support from Committee executive.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the operational challenges and legal responsibilities of boards/committees in not-for-profit organisations (desirable)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of working in early childhood services or related setting (desirable)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of working in not-for-profit organisations (desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience in developing policies and improving organisational systems and processes

  • Good digital file management skills
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity, responsibility, and respect in all aspects of the position

Applicants must reside in metropolitan Melbourne or surrounding areas and be available to attend occasional meetings in person at the centre.

Full vaccination against COVID required.
