About BaptistCare, Women Services - Darlinghurst

BaptistCare Women’s Services, enables women to access support and community in a safe space of belonging, dignity and value. This includes access to free, holistic and confidential professional support through a range of practical services including workshops and skills-based classes, drop in support, outreach, counselling and case management, safe-sex kits and food support, and assistance with accessing health and government services.

Role & Responsibilities:

This part-time role will support the Women’s Services CALD program in Darlinghurst by providing individual support to women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in outreach, drop in, and in one on one appointments.

You will be required to work with clients in Mandarin/Cantonese as well as English. Women’s Services work according to a therapeutic trauma informed and harm minimisation practice framework.

The role supports women, including transgender women, who are experiencing marginalisation and injustices such as homelessness, interpersonal violence, addiction, and poverty etc. We also offer targeted supports to women in the sex industry (we take a neutral position on sex work, focusing on women’s choice and safety only).

Skills & Experience:

  • Relevant qualifications in the area of social work, community welfare or related discipline
  • Extensive experience in working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Fluent language skills in Mandarin and/or Cantonese as well as English (other languages considered will include Thai/ Korean)
  • 2+ years’ experience in case work, preferably using a trauma informed and dignity driven approach
  • Demonstrated commitment to understanding the sex industry and the broader context of sex work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to work independently and also collaboratively as part of a team.
