About the Role

The Senior Practitioner +WAVES role offers culturally sensitive and trauma informed services. Working in conjunction with the partner agencies (Spectrum and The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service - VAHS) - the Senior Practitioner will lead and provide high quality therapeutic, mental health and family violence services to children, adults, refugees, youth and LGBTIQ+ people and their families.

Offering a multifaceted approach, the Senior Practitioner role includes:

  • Individual counselling for adults, young people, and children.
  • Family work to strengthen communication and relationships.
  • Group programs that promote healing after trauma.

In addition, the role provides supervision and support for +WAVES Practitioners in conjunction with the +WAVES Team Leader.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage counselling allocation of 8-10 clients, including providing individual and family therapeutic work and other duties as required.
  • Facilitation of evidence based/informed and therapeutic groups.
  • Participate, assist, and support the immediate and broader team to implement evidence-informed practice and ensure exceptional customer service and outcomes-based therapeutic support to clients.
  • Assist the +WAVES Team Leader in the day-to-day operations of the team including rostering, caseloads, performance management, professional development and support as required.
  • Provide regular formal supervision, reflective practice, staff development opportunities and risk management assessments and procedures for staff to ensure safe and efficient delivery of services.
  • Support and assist, as required, operational and strategic relationships, planning and initiatives within Baptcare.

About You

You are passionate about continuing to grow your career in the Mental Health space, solutions focused and up for making a difference. You align your approach to strategy to achieve organisational and divisional goals.

You will ideally bring the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or equivalent (essential)
  • Minimum of two years' experience post qualification working with children, young people, adults and families
  • Qualifications in Family Therapy, Child Development and Trauma (desirable)
  • Ability to utilise individual face to face therapeutic skills.
  • Experience in planning and facilitating evidence based/informed therapeutic individual and group programs for children.
  • Capacity to analyse complex issues, including the impact of violence and trauma, safety and risk, provide therapeutic interventions for women and children and assist them to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated evidence informed knowledge and application of therapeutic models and theories to develop skill- based interventions that enable positive change.
  • Knowledge of relevant risk and needs assessment frameworks; information sharing in the context of family violence provisions and the child information sharing scheme.
  • Experience in NFP and/or community aged care highly regarded.
  • Experience in a unionised workplace highly regarded.
  • Current Australian Driver's Licence and own insured vehicle.
  • Current Influenza and COVID-19 vaccination or willingness to obtain before commencement.
  • Willingness to obtain a Police Check through Baptcare.
