Banyule Council is seeking a driven and autonomous Community Energy Officer to join our Environment Team on a permanent part time basis. You will play a critical role in providing support & advice to the community on how to reduce household emissions.

The Environment Team is responsible for corporate and community climate action, strategic biodiversity and community education and stewardship. It provides advice on emissions reduction, adaptation, energy efficiency, environmental education, conservation and land management and supports the Banyule Environment and Climate Action Advisory Committee (BECAAC) and environment grants.

As the Community Energy Officer, you will:

  • Establish, promote and administer an in-house energy advice phone line and email account
  • Provide active support to residents on how to reduce household energy consumption, undertake energy efficiency upgrades, reduce energy bills and access government programs
  • Establish formal guidance on how to select reputable solar & energy suppliers and installers
  • Oversee Council's Solar on leased facilities program
  • Understand barriers to the uptake of energy efficiency upgrades, develop and implement a communication plan to raise awareness

You will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant experience in energy efficiency, community engagement, renewable energy, emissions reduction, community development or related disciplines are essential
  • Demonstrated knowledge of climate change and energy policy and government incentive programs
  • Excellent understanding of energy efficient and renewable energy technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to liaise effectively with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in investigation, research and preparation of reports
