Youth Justice and Community Support Coordinator

Banksia Gardens Community Services

Banksia Gardens Community Services is a vibrant community services organisation operating in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Our programs focus mainly on education and training, young people, early childhood, environmental sustainability and community participation and advocacy.

An exciting position is available in our Community Development and Action Research Team, leading a small team responsible for implementation of two of our organisation’s key initiatives, the Broadmeadows Community Youth Justice Alliance (BCYJA) and the Banksia Gardens Community Connections (BGCC) programs.

BCYJA is a partnership project which works with local young people between the ages of 10 and 24 (predominantly 10-19) at risk of becoming involved with the justice system. It includes the following components:

  • YouthSpace 3047: A hyperlocal, universal, highly targeted pro-social intervention using the existing BGCS programs as a platform.
  • Strategic co-location of essential support services.
  • Various levels of individual support, including support for high recidivist young offenders.

Banksia Gardens Community Connections is a place-based community development project which aims to improve health and wellbeing and to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour on the Banksia Gardens Public Housing Estate in Broadmeadows. This estate constitutes a pocket of severe disadvantage within what is already one of Melbourne’s most disadvantaged suburbs.

The Individual Support Coordinator will lead a small team of case managers and community development officers responsible for the coordination, implementation and evaluation of the above-mentioned programs.

We are seeking a committed, qualified and experienced team leader, with tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, youth work or other relevant tertiary qualifications, and significant experience working with justice-involved young people.

Join a passionate and dedicated team making a positive difference in our community in an organisation that offers supportive and attractive working conditions: flexible work arrangements, salary packaging, external supervision and employee assistance program (EAP) and plenty of professional development opportunities.
