BABI’s Specialist Youth Housing Service provides a range of supported accommodation options for young people 16-21, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. All young people are supported by a dedicated housing case worker with back up support provided by the on-site caretaker (volunteer).

The on-site caretaker is primarily an observational role. The role is to provide an adult presence at the property, particularly after hours, to monitor the wellbeing of the young people, to address rule infringements and to regularly provide feedback to the Housing Case worker who is responsible for ongoing case management and support of tenants residing in BABI share house. The Caretaker is to develop and maintain healthy relationships with the young people, BABI Staff and neighbours and to generally be a positive role model.

Applicants would need to have an understanding of young people and the issues they face, a non-judgemental attitude, good communication skills, an open mind to learning, an ability to work within a team, respect and tolerance for the rights of young people, a good sense of humour and the time to devote to fulfil the expectations of the volunteer position.

The role would suit mature-age singles, or couples with some experience working with adolescents. Applications from families with a child or children will not be accepted.
