The Offshore Alliance is an industrial organisation bringing together the industrial and organising resources of the Australian Workers’ Union and the Maritime Union of Australia. The Alliance organises in all sectors of the offshore hydrocarbons industry including production, construction, maintenance, drilling and catering. 

Over the past year, the Offshore Alliance has made significant progress in organising offshore workers through a strategic industry approach to collective bargaining. The Offshore Alliance has also grown significantly in the last year and now requires an additional Organiser to ensure we continue to recruit members and build industrial power. 

The position will be based in Perth and will be responsible for building worker power in a team environment through recruiting workers to the Alliance and developing sustainable activist structures. The successful applicant will be required to work to innovative campaign plans as well as independently where required.

Selection Criteria - Abilities and Experience 

  • Experience working or organising in other progressive organisations or having a background of representing workers at the workplace level;
  • Ability to inspire people to join the Alliance and actively participate in its activities;
  • Sound literacy and computer skills;
  • Ability to understand and interpret industrial instruments and workplace laws;
  • Ability to identify and develop leaders;
  • Strong planning, time-management and strategic-thinking skills;
  • Familiarity with contemporary digital media;
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work as part of team as well as independently;
  • Proven negotiating skills;
  • Willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve good outcomes for members (some long hours, evening work and weekend work may be required);
  • Preparedness to travel from time to time;
  • Ability to obtain and hold a Right of Entry Permit;
  • Ability to obtain a MSIC; and
  • Hold a current driver licence.

Salary:

An attractive salary will be offered to the successful candidate. This will be discussed at interview.
