The Australian Volunteers Program is an Australian government funded initiative that has placed skilled volunteers overseas for over 60 years. Our volunteer assignments are driven by local objectives and needs of our partner organisations, located in 26 countries across Indo-Pacific.
Apply your technical skills and unique experiences to make a significant contribution to countries and communities overseas, all while working and living in Australia. Remote volunteering is flexible. Volunteer at a time and location that suits your needs while still making an impact overseas.
Support is available every step of the way, with training and resources, and advice from our in-country teams who are here to help you navigate your volunteer journey. A small allowance is provided to help with costs of working remotely. You will also join a network of thousands of current and past Australian volunteers.
The National Volunteer Service (NVS) is a government agency under the Ministry for Defence, NVS reports directly to the Minister responsible for this Ministry. The establishment of the National Volunteer Service Office (NVSO) was made through a political member’s bill in Parliament. The intention was to use trained, qualified and experienced people (Papua New Guineans) to provide the much needed expert services to people living in remote PNG. The idea is to create an avenue through which caring and kind hearted Papua New Guineans and foreigners alike could volunteer their expertise for others who are not so well off.
The National Volunteer Service celebrates its 30th years in Service this year with so much to show and tell in helping to develop community in the remotest parts of PNG. These stories tell of the successes and challenges faced by both the volunteers and the communities. The National Volunteer Service relies heavily on government support however its funding has been continuously slashed and further decreased due to the COVID19 Pandemic, therefore the organisation is seeking the assistance of a volunteer to assist with this assignment. NVS needs a strong electronic media platform and social media profile to enhance its volunteer placement in many more remote areas. NVS is seeking a volunteer that can support them to build new digital skills and increase their confidence in working online. This volunteer will work with the small team to review their communication strategy and provide advise on strengthening their social media, website and the use of digital tools.
