About the Partner Organisation: 

The Guadalcanal Provincial Government is the state arm of the National Government of Solomon Islands, providing services to the people of the island province of Guadalcanal. The Provincial Government is currently undertaking a major organisational review and restructuring programme. The mission is to effectively and efficiently carry out the economic, political, social and administrative functions of the Province through good and collaborative governance, research and innovation, strategic partnerships, and the delivery of programmes, review and restructure the Province’s organisational structure, and develop the capacity of members of the Assembly and the provincial administrative staff. Urban development arrangements with the national government and Honiara City Council on key areas such as land issues and urban expansion are a huge challenge. As such, urban planning and development becomes a key priority for the Guadalcanal Provincial Government. The Province has no provisions to establish such a role and cannot afford to hire persons with relevant experience and qualifications to provide advice on urban land and development issues and must look towards a remote volunteer at this time.

About the Position: 

• You’ll be responsible for supporting the Township Project Office in order to develop policies and assist in the development of a Local Planning Scheme
• You’ll need tertiary qualifications in Urban Planning or a related discipline, with relevant experience in the field
• You’ll gain the ability to shape the direction of the planning scheme and build capacity of those involved
