The Australian Volunteers Program is an Australian government funded initiative that has placed skilled volunteers overseas for over 60 years. Our volunteer assignments are driven by local objectives and needs of our partner organisations, located in 26 countries across Indo-Pacific.
As an Australian volunteer, we will support you by providing return airfares, living and accommodation allowances, health and security support, pre-departure and in-country training, and support for partners and children as well as people living with a disability.
Significant challenges to capability and capacity associated with IRD’s reform efforts encourage the organisation to focus internally. Recently new tax information products issued in anticipation of the public rulings program made possible by the new Tax Administration Law have generated a positive response from the tax profession in Myanmar. The foreign Chambers of Commerce and accounting and law firms are interested to contribute to reform, but their deliberations often do not include IRD. There is sometimes confusion about the effect of tax policy versus tax administration and the roles of Government and the tax administration. IRD is starting to see the benefits that come with better public relations and more effective stakeholder engagement.
A suitably qualified volunteer can advise IRD’s Communications & Public Education Unit on how it can build more proactive relations with key media representatives and to appreciate the benefits of stakeholder management in support of reform objectives.
