The Center for Independent Living of Persons with disabilities, Kathmandu (CIL-Kathmandu), started its work on disability rights in 2005, with a central mission of "Promoting and strengthening values, principles and practices of independent living throughout Nepal". CIL plays a key role in developing independent living skills and providing Personal Assistant Services, assistive devices, employment or social security services and creating an accessible environment in the community for whilst also advocating regularly with the government to revise and rewrite existing laws & policy in favour of persons with disabilities.
Through 2020, the COVID19 pandemic has impacted people with disabilities (PwDs) in terms of job losses, mental health issues and reduction of support services; affecting their morale and their right to be active citizens of the community. Many CIL-Kathmandu programs have been interrupted and the financial situation is unstable due to stoppage of funds from its partners. It is in this context that CIL-Kathmandu are looking to strengthen their skills in the advocacy support area. The volunteer will be responsible for reviewing and finalising advocacy and awareness materials
We actively support and encourage people of all backgrounds and abilities to volunteer internationally and aim to make the program as accessible and inclusive as possible. - Find out more
