The Environment and Conservation Division (ECD) of the Ministry of Environment deals with work on development control and waste management and pollution control. The focus is on promoting and the enhancement of the environment and social aspects of economic development using appropriate environmental safeguards and tools. This assignment is important for the division’s strategic goals by building and strengthening the national institutional, technical and administrative capacity. The assignment will enable the division to effectively and efficiently harmonise economic policy objectives with environmental objectives, to promote the protection, conservation and sustainable management of the use of the environment and natural resources of Solomon Islands.

  • The primary objective of this assignment is to build and develop the capacity of ECD to proactively implement the compliance and enforcement mechanisms provided for under the environmental legislation administered by ECD.
  • Additionally you will be required to develop, test and implement a manual of standard operating procedures for compliance and enforcement of environmental legislation and assess and recommend the minimum staff and resource requirement for compliance and enforcement.
  • To be successful in winning this assignment you will need qualifications to postgraduate level in environmental science or related areas (e.g environmental chemistry, environment law, biodiversity conservation), along with more than 5 years experience at the senior level in a government department that deals with environmental management, compliance and enforcement.
